Agitated after being unable to overtake a bike, a few men in a Scorpio car shot at the biker and fled in outer Delhi's Rohini area on Wednesday morning.

Police said the victim, Pradeep Kumar, 25, has been admitted to a private hospital and is said to be out of danger.

Initial investigation suggests it was a case of road rage.

Kumar was going to the local market and was at the Bawana-main road when the incident took place. "Pradeep, a student at Maharshi Dayanand University, was riding a motorcycle. The driver of the Scorpio was repeatedly honking and trying to overtake. Since the road was narrow, Kumar was not able to move aside," said a senior police officer.

The police said first the accused hit the bike with their car after which Kumar fell. "The occupants of the car, who are yet to be identified, then got down and thrashed Kumar. One of them took out his pistol and shot at him," the officer added. Police said he was shot in his abdomen.

A case has been registered at Rohini police station and further investigations are on.
