A slipper was allegedly thrown at CM Sheila Dikshit when she was addressing a small gathering at Nand Nagri in northeast Delhi on Friday. The slipper missed the dais where she was delivering her speech.

The CM office, however, admitted there was a protest but denied the slipper-throwing incident.

Protesting the steep hike in power tariffs and prices of essential commodities, the protesters showed her black flags and raised slogans.

Dikshit was immediately whisked away by her security staff and government officials. According to the police, seven people were detained and released after the function was over.

Dikshit had gone to Nand Nagri to inaugurate two renovated circle offices of the food and supplies department.

The group, which included women, shouted ‘Sheila Dikshit haye haye’ and even squatted in front of her convoy in protest.

“Elements trying to spread lawlessness and anarchy are behind such acts,” the chief minister later told PTI.

The protesters also laid siege to Power Minister Haroon Yusuf’s vehicle and the police had to forcibly remove them.

The protesters allegedly belonged to the Bahujan Samaj Party but the police refused to confirm it.
