The wife of BSP MLA Haji Alim was allegedly killed by her two stepsons over a personal grudge and a property dispute, Delhi police said on Sunday.
A senior police official said that the Bulandshahr MLA’s 40-year-old wife Rehana was murdered by his sons Danish and Anas — from his first wife. Both of whom are absconding.
Police said the stepsons killed Rehana as they blamed her for their mother’s suffering as their father had abandoned her for Rehana. The flat in which Rehana’s body was found was in her name and was another reason why they conspired to murder her, police said.
They were helped by one Nadeem, 30, who was arrested in Seemapuri on Saturday. Police said he was the one who had ferociously stabbed Rehana 12 times with a knife.
“Anas gained friendly entry into the house as Rehana knew him. Danish and Nadeem followed Anas. Danish shot dead Rehana while Nadeem stabbed her several times,” said VV Choudhry, additional CP (northeast), adding Danish had promised to pay `5 lakh to Nadeem for his help.
Rehana was the second wife of Aleem. Her body was found with several stab founds and gunshot injuries at her northeast Delhi home on October 9. The incident occurred while Haji was out of India on Haj pilgrimage.
No clean chit has been given Alim or his younger brother Yunus, police said. The involvement of one Arif, Nadeem’s employer, is also being probed.
