Caretaker Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his opponent Congress nominee Yatin Oza on Monday filed their nomination papers from Maninagar Assembly constituency of Ahmedabad city.

Modi filed his papers at 12.30 am which is described as the 'Vijay Mahurat'. He was accompanied by Keshubhai Patel, former chief minister, Rajendrasinh Rana, state BJP president and large number of party workers and supporters.

Modi, before handing over four sets of nomination papers, read out an oath before the returning officer.

His opponent Yatin Oza of Congress also filed his nomination.

Modi, for the first time this year, had won bye-elections from Rajkot II assembly seat after taking over reigns of the state from Keshubhai Patel and had become the member of the house.

During his rule, Modi had to face the wrath of the Godhra train incident which followed the communal violence in parts of the state.

Later talking to reporters, Modi reiterated that BJP would seek 'positive votes' based on its 'performance' during the tenure of the party government.

Amidst a strong display of saffron strength by hundreds of party workers at the Government Polytechnic, Modi also took the blessings of his predecessor Keshubhai Patel on the occasion.
