DMK President M Karunanidhi on Monday said the opposition by Chief Ministers of Kerala, West Bengal and Bihar to the national river water grid was "not a correct thing".
He told reporters here that the proposal "should not be treated or diluted as a state subject. It was not in the interest
of a single state. Opposing such plans will only harm national integrity".
Karunanidhi was talking to reporters after meeting DMK leader and his son M K Azhagiri, lodged in the central prison here after his arrest in connection with the murder of DMK leader T Kiruttinan.
He said if Ganges could not be linked to Cauvery, at least the adjacent rivers could be linked.
On the Union Ministers Jaswant Singh and George Fernandes not meeting him on the way to Kancheepuram to meet the Kanchi seer yesterday, Karunanidhi quipped "perhaps Kanchi seer is weightier than me".
Asked to react on Union Minister and BJP leader S Tirunavukkarsar's remarks that only Karunanidhi could set right the NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu, the DMK chief said he did not wish to comment on it as "it will not look fair".
He said DMK's relationship with BJP-led NDA at the Centre would continue.
On Union Minister Murasoli Maran's state of health, he said "it is not quite satisfactory".
On the delay in a Supreme Court verdict in the Tansi case, Karunanidhi said he did not want to say anything as the matter was before the court.
