When you’re single in a city like Mumbai, the chances of meeting someone new almost seem negligible. You may think everyone at work dresses like they belong to the Stone Age, not to mention that there is hardly any time in your busy schedule to have a decent conversation with anyone. But

entrepreneur Siddharth Mangharam, and his new singles network, Floh, is now coming to the city with a rescue plan.
The group, which is already operational in Bengaluru and Delhi, will be launched in Mumbai with a swanky sailing event tomorrow and promises to “bring single people together at distinctive events with the objective of meeting like-minded people and perhaps finding a partner of their choice.”
Talking about his brainchild, Mangharam says that Floh was born when he heard most of his single friends complain about not meeting anyone. “My single male friends were complaining that there weren’t any single women around, and my single women friends were usually wondering where all the single men had vanished! And yet, there is an abundance of single people around. The real issue is that there wasn’t a platform for them to meet. So we founded Floh,” says Mangharam.
Floh focuses on providing members with opportunities, where they can have a meaningful interaction with others. Ask Mangharam how strict they are about the kind of people they admit to their events, and he says, “We have a highly curated membership. Our members are urban, educated and independent and have a passion for different experiences. We screen every single person before granting access to the network. We’ve screened over 8,000 people in the last year.”
But when you picture a singles club, a lot of questions about privacy and safety cross your mind. “Apart from the heavy-duty screening, we make sure that the club is exclusive. Most people hear about Floh from existing members and we track these referrals closely. At each of our events we have a founder member who ensures that things run smoothly. We have a zero tolerance policy towards unacceptable behaviour and this is strictly enforced,” says Mangharam.
