The Mumbra police arrested six men who had planned to kill local corporator Rajan Kine. On Thursday, the police received information that some people would arrive at the Mumbra railway station with an intention to kill someone.
“We laid a trap however, could only nab Irfan Sheikh
(20), a Navi Mumbai resident,” said deputy commissioner of police Vikram Deshmane. A revolver and two cartridges were recovered from him.
“Irfan told us that he had come along with a Mumbra resident Khwaja Sheikh (30), Jalna resident Abdul Sheikh (24) and Basti resident Raju Yadav (27) to kill corporator at the bidding of Mumbra resident Iqbal Mullani (28),” said Deshmane.
He told the police that Khwaja, Abdul and Raju were staying at a farmhouse in Badlapur owned by a NCP member Ramesh Patil (34). They were arrested on Thursday night while Mullani and Patil, were arrested on Friday morning.
“This is a politically-staged attack. The police should carry out a brain mapping on them and find out the real mastermind,” said Kine, an independent supported by Shiv Sena.
They have been remanded in custody till August 14.
