    Chandigarh: Man gets two-year jail for setting car on fire

    Taking strict note of a man setting a car on fire after sprinkling petrol on it, judicial magistrate Aman Inder Singh, in a first of its kind conviction, awarded two-year jail to a resident of Indira colony after nearly two years of being booked. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on convict Kaka Ram, a welder, and held him guilty on the basis of an extra-judicial confession.

    Punjab govt rolls back e-TRIP, ups VAT on steel industry

    Punjab on Friday announced abolition of the e-TRIP system besides increasing the value added tax (VAT) on steel industry by 1%. Announcing this while interacting with the members of the beopar mandal, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal here said rolling back e-TRIP would exempt around 1.86 lakh dealers having a turnover of less than Rs 1 crore from the value added tax (VAT) assessment by the excise department.
