A deputy inspector general (DIG) of police in Meerut has been booked on charges of alleged molestation of a woman cop.
It has been alleged that the DIG (police training school) Devi Prasad called the police woman, who teaches cyber crime at the same school, to his office and harassed her on April 23. On the directive of the SSP, a case has been registered against him, a police spokesperson said.
The action was taken on the basis of a report submitted by additional director general of police Sutapa Sanyal who was ordered to probe the matter after the woman cop had brought it to the notice of higher authorities, the spokesperson said.
Sanyal had submitted her report on Wednesday following which a case was yesterday registered against the DIG under sections 354 (assaulting a woman), 503 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insulting a woman) of the IPC.
SSP Onkar Singh, however, said that the DIG has not been arrested so far.
The DIG could not be reached on phone when contacted for comment.
