Even as the state government made tall claims of launching the new 'Atta Dal' scheme -- for nearly 30 lakh blue card holders in the state -- from December 1, the food and supply department is yet to receive the wheat meant for distribution.

All present beneficiaries including BPL and AAY (Antodiya) ration card holders are eligible for the scheme.

Under the scheme -- which was to be implemented in two phases -- blue card holders would be given wheat at Rs. 1, while pulses at Rs. 20 per kg.

Over the past few weeks, the government has been advertising about the scheme with much fanfare. However, the food and supply department is yet to receive the wheat meant for distribution.

The officials said the state government had taken up the matter with the Central government regarding supply of wheat, scheduled to be distributed.

They said it would take another week for the wheat to reach the district headquarters.

The beneficiaries -- around 14,514 BPL card holders, 73,000 blue card and 6740 AAY ration card holders -- will have to wait for another week to get their entitlements under the scheme.

Confirming that they were yet to receive the consignment of wheat, district food and supply controller Rakesh Singla, said, "The government has already been communicated in this regard."

Singla said, "Those who want to apply for new blue cards, free-of-cost forms are available at the SDM offices and suvidha kendras in the district."

Families with an annual income of less than Rs. 60,000, land less than 2.5 acres, besides all 100-yard plot holders in the urban areas will be eligible for the new blue cards and thereby avail benefits of the new scheme.

The pensioners receiving annual pension of less than Rs. 60,000 will also be eligible for the blue cards.
