Barnala residents form committee for justice to victim, meet top cop

A day after the cremation of acid attack victim Harpreet Kaur, the Barnala residents demanded action against the groom's family.The police commissioner assured them that the investigation was on and the police would take action against the family in case they found evidence against them.

Replying to the demand of the Barnala residents, the police commissioner said the police had been seeking legal opinion for shifting the case to a fast-track court.

Members of the 'Harpreet Insaaf Dilao Committee' led by Surinder Singh, uncle of the victim, held a meeting with police commissioner Nirmal Singh Dhillon at the police lines. The committee members also thanked the Ludhiana police for solving the case and arresting all the accused. The members praised the Ludhiana police for being generous in the treatment of the victim.

Surinder Singh said they demanded a government job for Arshpreet Singh, brother of the deceased. Arshpreet is student of Class 11 and is a national-level hockey Player. He said the government had announced a job at the suwidha centre at Barnala, but they sought a government job.

Makkhan Prabhakar, a member of the committee, said finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa had announced Rs. 5 lakh in compensation to the family that would be handed over to them at the bhog ceremony of Harpreet on Sunday.

Dhillon said all six accused had been arrested and the police would submit the chargesheet in the case in a week.

Barnala SSP Opinderjit Singh also met the police commissioner along with the committee.
