In city to attend a convention of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) on Saturday, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and member parliament Gurudas Dasgupta slammed both the UPA and NDA for their 'worthless' policies.

He termed the BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi a pawn in the hands of big corporate houses, who were promoting him for their own interest.

While addressing mediapersons at Punjabi Bhawan, he said that earlier such corporate houses propped Dr Manmohan Singh and after using him for at least 10 years, they have now turned towards Modi.

He said the left wants a change in policies and would contest the upcoming election on the issues of inflation, recession, corruption, communalism and suicides committed by farmers.

He said the left does not believe in the policies of the UPA or the NDA adding that they have tested both alliances and both have proved worthless.

He said the left would not go with any alliance, even if they assure them to change their policies.
In reply to a question, the MP said that he would not reveal the strategy now and the party would take its final decision after gheraoing the Parliament in Delhi against the policies of UPA-2 government.

He called on people to march towards Delhi on December 12 to gherao the Parliament. He said the UPA-2 government has been increasingly working in the interest of big corporate business houses and the international cartels undermining the national interest.

"The government is more inclined to respond to the demands of the international finance capital and the multinational companies, while hitting the common man hard, even denying basic amenities such as food, shelter, health and education to them," he said.

Others, who addressed the gathering, include general secretary of AITUC, Ludhiana, OP Mehta, general secretary Joint Council of Trade Unions DP Maur, president and general secretary of AITUC Punjab unit, Bant Singh and Nirmal Dhaliwal, respectively.
