People can now avail the benefit of 10% rebate on property tax till December 10, Balwinder Singh, inspector of the Sirhind-Fatehgarh MC, said here on Sunday.
The municipal council of Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib has collected Rs. 19.54 lakh as property tax from around 1,100 applicants, he said.
Singh said the MC had set a target to collect Rs. 1.28 crore as property tax and the MC employees were working hard to meet the targets. A huge rush of people was seen at the offices designated by the MC for collecting property tax on Saturday, which was earlier last date of depositing property tax with rebate.
MC employees informed the residents that those who would file their property tax returns before December 10 will get a rebate of 10% and those filing tax returns by December 31 will not be given any rebate.
After December 31, the residents will have to pay tax with 25% penalty and those who will not clear the tax amount by March 31, 2014, will be levied with 50% penalty and 18% interest.
Rishi Puri, a Sirhind-based shopkeeper, demanded that residential premises and vacant plots should be exempted from property tax.
