Congress candidate and sitting MP from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat Vijay Inder Singla on Sunday accused his rival SAD candidate of running a campaign against him and expressed his confidence that people would support him for the development works done by him here.

"People know the capability of each candidate and the development projects brought and does not need a certificate from his opponents," Singla said while addressing poll meetings here.

Singla, contesting against SAD's Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Aam Aadmi Party's Bhagwant Mann, said the Akali candidate was running away from a meaningful debate on issues concerning Sangrur and was spreading rumours about PGI Cancer Hospital being set up with Rs. 449 crore at the erstwhile TB Hospital in Ghabdan village in the district.

He said, "PGI Sangrur Cancer project had already been passed by the Union Cabinet and PGI Chandigarh, which is the implementation agency, had been communicated regarding all approvals in February 2014 itself and the hospital work would start soon."

"No big project starts functioning or working overnight," he said, accusing the SAD nominee "falling to this level as he had nothing else to contribute except falsehood even on a issue like cancer which was affecting almost every household in this area."  The Akali candidate had alleged that no cancer hospital was being built.

Singla said the Akalis had become non-plussed seeing the pace of development brought by him.
