Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh has asked the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president, Partap Singh Bajwa, to take a stand against the imposition of the property tax in the state.

Talking to mediapersons at Rupnagar on Saturday night, Capt Amarinder Singh said the imposition of the property tax was a retrograding step of the Punjab government and he was strongly opposed to the tax. He called upon the people of the state not to pay the property tax.

Capt Amarinder Singh said he had requested the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, to retain the present office-bearers of the PPCC while restructuring the state body. At the same time, new office-bearers could also be added, he said.

He accused the Akali Dal-BJP government of ruining the state and failing on all fronts. The former CM also criticised the government for spending lavishly on performances by film actors and singers during the opening ceremony of the Kabaddi World Cup.
