As a goodwill gesture towards the welfare of Muslim and Christian communities, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday asked the finance department to make regular budgetary provision in the state’s annual budget for the purchase of land for cemeteries and burial grounds. The decision was taken in a meeting with the delegation of the Punjab State Minorities Commission led by its chairman Munawar Masih at his office on Tuesday morning.

Conceding another demand of the delegation, the CM also agreed to allot 1,695 square yards of land for construction of a Masih Bhawan at Amritsar as the state government already allotted `25 lakh for the purpose.

Badal also ordered the deputy commissioner of Gurdaspur to hand over possession of the under-construction Masih Bhawan there to the society overseeing the project; and announced grant of another `10 lakh for completion of construction.

On the demand for formation of ‘peace committees’ at the district level across the state, the CM directed the financial commissioner, home, to initiate steps in the regard as the list of members to be nominated for these committees had already been given to the police department.
