150+ margin is a huge margin of win, especially in a tournament as competitive as a World Cup. Before Australia achieved their massive win against Scotland, they had only two such World Cup victories to their credit, one less than India.  But the 203 run victory has brought them on par with India in scoring 150+ victories. Nothing compared to winning a Cup, still an achievement they can be proud of!

In 2003, Australia had beaten another minnows, Namibia at Potchefstroom by a massive margin of 256 runs. Their other 150+ Victory had come, incidentally against India only, in the 1983 World Cup. Then they had beaten the eventual champions by 162 runs, before losing to them in the decisive final encounter of  the round-robin stage.

Of India’s three victories, two have come against Sri Lanka. In 1999 at Taunton, India have beaten Sri Lanka by 157 runs thanks to a magnificent partnership of 318 between Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly.

Four years later, India did one better by beating the Islanders by 183 runs. It will be interesting to see if last edition’s runners up can make a hattrick of 150+ wins against Sri Lanka by an equally convincing show in the West Indies. They are destined to meet at least once, being in the same group.

2003 was also a great year for the  men in Blue, as they scored another  150+ victory getting the better of Namibia by 181 runs at Pietermaritzburg.

The teams on the receiving end include Sri Lanka, who were mauled four times,   Incidentally, India also finds a place among this list of dubious achievers  with two such losses. The biggest coming against England at Lords by a whopping margin of 202 runs in 1975, a day Sunny will love to forget!

It was the second biggest mauling in the history of World Cups till Australia match against Scotland happened.

If we see the World Cups with largest 150+ Victories, then the 1975 and the 2003 editions take the top spot with four each. Probably, 1975 saw so many lopsided wins because it was the first World Cup, but in 2003, Namibia, the whipping boy, accounted for three out of four such thrashings.

However, the only time an eventual champion has been able to eke out a 150+ victory was in 2003, the eighth edition of the World Cup.  Before that none of the champion teams could manage this feat.

Australia  will hope to be second time lucky this time round.
