It’s one of the most talked about societies in the varsity. With 13 members in total, the society, which was conceived in 2002, bagged the first positions at annual fests at St. Stephen’s College, Institute of Home Economics and Hindu College this year. 

Izrar
Lady Shri Ram College

This society, which is 20 years old, is known for their technique and the themes they select to perform on. It’s not easy to get in this society, as a newcomer has to go through several tough rounds of auditions and only ten new members are inducted each year.

Adaigo
Kamala Nehru College

The society, which was formed in 2009, is known for performing on current issues. With about 14 members in total, Adaigo has made its mark in the last two years.

IP College for Women

With 17 members in total, the society conducts strict auditions to induct new members. Crotchet recently stood third at Commotion, jointly held at Dilli Haat in South Delhi and Indian Habitat Centre, and second at Shruti, their own college festival.

Sri Venkateswara College

Many former members of this society are now the members of Artistes Unlimited (AU). This college society gives a tough competition to other western music societies of the varsity.

Echo
Jesus and Mary College

This society is known to host the biggest western music event in the varsity – Madrigal. The society has bagged top positions in solo, duet and group categories, including the annual fest of IIT Delhi – Rendezvous. There are about 15-20 members in the society.

Alankar
Hindu College

Started some 10 years back, Alankar has come a long way. The society has become one of the most active societies of Hindu College and also of Delhi University. They have won many laurels, both at home and outside Delhi. Every year, it holds its annual festival - Harmony, which sees enthusiastic participation from other leading colleges of Delhi.

IP College for Women

This society is famous for organising its annual event - Ninaad, as part of the college’s annual festival - Shruti. With about 20 members, the society holds three rounds of auditions to induct new members. The group is divided into solo singing and choir. This year, they performed at many college festivals.

Kirori Mal College

The Music Society of the college - MUSOC - starts its activities every year with a choir workshop. The society recently  formed a rock band called Five8. The last rock band formed by the society was ‘Parikrama’, which is quite popular now. The success story of MUSOC lies in the efforts, talents and teamwork by every member of the society.

If dramatics is your calling

Kirori Mal College

It’s one of the leading theatre groups of Delhi University and is famous for its alumni like Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah and Satish Kaushik. The society hosts its inter-college theatre festival each year. Over the years, The Players has begun to function as a Repertory Company that keeps old productions alive alongside new ones.

Lady Shri Ram College

The Dramatics Society of Lady Shri Ram College aims to create awareness about various social and women related issues through its stage plays. It actively takes part in inter-college festivals in and around Delhi. As a member of this society, you get an opportunity to do theatre workshops with eminent theatre directors.

Masque & Abhirang
Hindu College

The dramatics society of this college is divided into two parts, Hindi (Abhirang) and English (Masque). Masque is known for its cutting edge performances. They even have a Facebook page. Abhirang aims to hone the acting and presentational skills of the students on the stage.

Always debating with everyone?

Debating society
Hindu College

The society is known to organise The Ashok Priyadarshi Memorial Freshers Debate, The Tantra Delhi University Extempore Debate, The Premchand Memorial Parliamentary Debate and the N.V. Thadani Memorial Parliamentary Debate. In all likelihood, you would find them in the eco balcony of the campus.

St Stephen’s

The society, which has about 20 members, organises V C Memorial Debate each year among other popular debating competitions. This is one of the most sought after societies of the university.

Miranda House

This 15-16 year-old society has about 20 members. The members say that one need to have the three M’s - matter, method and manner - to be a good debater. The society has two annual events each year — Manzar, the international debating event and Dialectics, the national level event.

Fashion gets you going

Glitz
Kamala Nehru College

The society is known throughout the varsity for its brilliant shows every year. In the past, the society was also declared the the best fashion team of Delhi University by Hindustan Times. The best part is that for every show, the team members themselves handle all the production part and do not take outside help.

Debonair
Daulat Ram College

The society started its journey in 2009. With Sadak Chaap and Naturally in Love being the themes of the fashion parades for the year 2010-11, the team brought laurels to the college. A relatively new fashion society on campus, it is known for its good choreography and music. They also have a Facebook page.

Prophecy
Lady Irwin College

The fashion society here tries to promote fashion-related activities among the college students, such as dress designing, choreography and modeling. In a year, they hold three major events - The Freshers’ Talent Contest, Parents’ Eve Fashion Show and Quintessence.

Manchtantra
Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce

This society has won all the top honours at the annual fests of various colleges in Delhi University. This year’s production - Kyunki Main Hindu Hun - was also quite appreciated. Their have held first positions at Maulana Azad Medical College, BITS Pilani, and Jesus and Mary College.

Ibtida
Hindu College

There are about 20 members in the group, who share a common passion for theatre.  Bollywood filmmaker Imtiaz Ali began as a member of this street play society. The society recently bagged the second best street play and the best street play actor award at the annual fest of BITS Pilani.

Shunya
Ramjas College

Formed in 1994, the society (see pic below) has 33 members. Those proficient in theatre can become a member by qualifying the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) quota while taking admission in the college. Their annual street play, titled - Soch Badlo - got selected by the Asmita Theatre Group.
