Payal Rohatagi and Sangram Singh are the lead actors in the film.

Unlike several other celebrities who are all set to make their poll debut in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, wrestler Sangram Singh says he isn’t interested in politics. But being a responsible citizen of India, he will urge people to cast their ballot after being roped in as the brand ambassador for voter awareness drives by the Haryana State Election Commission.

Sangram talks about his responsibilities and more in this interview.

With so many celebs turning politicians, do you think of it as an option as well?
I’ve no interest in turning politician. I’d rather work for society in other ways. Moreover, politics is for big people and I don’t think I’ve made it yet. I have become the brand ambassador of elections in Haryana and will urge people to vote. I can’t go there personally since I’m busy with work, so I’ve sent a voice message. People should cast their ballot not only for themselves, but also for society and the country. We need to choose a leader who brings progress. I was also offered crores to campaign for some parties in Haryana for just four days, but I turned them down. I’m not interested in supporting any party.

How did you decide to take up acting on TV?
When the reality show ended, Salmanji (Khan) suggested that I should take up a positive character on TV. Suniel (Shetty), too, told me earlier that TV is a huge medium and it would do wonders for me. In my debut show, I am playing the role of a cop called Sangram Singh, and I will be seen doing many stunts. With every passing day on the sets of the show, my acting skills are getting sharpened. I am also looking forward to working in good films. Though there have been offers, none of them was substantial enough. I want to work with established film-makers.

Since my ultimate goal in life is to start a wrestling league in India, I feel entertainment is a good medium to reach out to every household in the country. My popularity through TV will help my dream (of establishing the league) come true. Wrestling is in my blood and I want to take it to bigger heights.

After your recent engagement with girlfriend Payal Rohatgi, have you finalised the wedding date?
It’s not fixed yet. I want to become somebody and reach a certain position in my career before getting married. It is likely to be by the end of this year or the next. She has been with me through thick and thin, and I appreciate her in my life.
