Director Ashutosh Gowarikar's historical love saga Jodha Akbar is likely to have its first screening at the 60th Cannes Film Festival in May.
The Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan starrer will reportedly represent India in a special section dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Indian independence, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the festival. Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi is expected to attend this special event.
Earlier, the festival organisers wanted to premiere director Rajat Kapoor's Mithya but with the film being in the last stages of production, the producers, Planman Motion Pictures, did not want to compromise on the quality by rushing through the process. They then decided against sending an unfinished Mithya to the festival.
The organisers later approached Gowarikar to premiere his film.
Jodha Akbar is likely to hit the Indian marquees in October and cine fans are eagerly waiting to see Aishwarya and Hrithik, the hottest onscreen couple, again. They came together for the first time in Sanjay Gadhavi's Dhoom and the two gorgeous actors sizzled.
This will be Ash's first release after her wedding with Abhishek Bachchan.
