Watch: Manish Raisinghani, Actor
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, 1995
It is one of my personal favourites and also the favourite love story of about a billion young Indian hearts. I mention ‘young’ because this movie makes every heart feel young and fall in love.’
3 Idiots, 2009
A movie which makes you laugh and cry. The best part of it is that it brings a smile to your face even when your’re crying. It is a flawless piece of work which doesn’t just entertain you but inspires you in every possible way.
A Wednesday, 2008
A masterpiece of storytelling where the director has made a statement in just 100 minutes of a movie.
One word for this movie — poetry. Every frame of the movie is a painting, every performance is unforgettable. The movie is full of wonderful moments. It simply stands as a classic for me.
Rang De Basanti, 2006
This film represents modern day patriotism, it is a perfect example of the fact that the country will shape up just the way we treat it, because we are Indians and we make India. It shows that we are capable of doing more than just sitting and cribbing about our national issues.
Read: Rohit Trilokekar, Author, The Kitty Buddha
The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery
The book reads like a fairytale, it has elements of magic and a refreshing simplicity. Although there is not much of a story, it makes for an engrossing read because of the originality of thought infused in it.
The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand
It is bold considering the age in which it was written. It’s compelling and many layered with characters that are moulded to every specific detail you could ask for. So much so that they seem to come alive in front of you.
The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne Frank
It’s the kind of book you could enjoy with a hot soup on a cold winter day, reading tiny bits of a little girl’s life in a traumatic time, revealing unparalleled courage in the throes of war, even greater than the soldiers who fought it.
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Robert M Pirsig
The book show that every life on this planet is a story unto itself, that the real journey is within and not without. Written without fear, this is the kind of book you can read over and over again.
It, Stephen King
King makes absolutely unreal characters real in a world filled with real people. He makes the monster believable and larger than life, and gives nostalgia and friendships a whole new meaning.
Listen: Mihir Joshi, Lead singer, Bombay Rock Project
This Life, Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers
A TV show I’m really enjoying these days is Sons Of Anarchy. I love everything about it and the first thing that really caught my attention right up in Season One was the fantastic opening track for the show.
Something, The Beatles
Irrespective of which new songs and artists I’m listening to, the songs of the Beatles are something that I can go back to anytime. Of all the incredible songs they’ve made, my number one song is ‘Something’, written by George Harrison. I would love to someday record it my way too.
Walt Grace’s Submarine Test, January 1967, John Mayer
I truly believe that John Mayer is the greatest artist of this generation. His songwriting and musicality is beyond belief, but more than that he’s a fantastic storyteller. This song, more than any other, is a testament to that fact.
I Can’t Tell You Why, Vince Gill
One of my top bands of all time is The Eagles. Vince Gill’s version of ‘I Can’t Tell You Why’ really blows me away. It’s is one of my go-to, late night, endless-loop songs. Originally it was sung by Timothy B Schmit of The Eagles.
Nayane Lajavit, Anand Bhate
This song was my caller tune for over a year. I’ve always loved Indian classical music. It is from the soundtrack of the Marathi film, Balgandharva. I firmly believe that the film has the greatest soundtrack that I have ever heard for an Indian movie.
Eat: Sonal Shroff, Owner, Poco Loco
This is the best rooftop bar of Mumbai and nothing can beat the view here. A special mention needs to be made about the cocktails, wonderful sushi and pizzas served here.
Cafe Zoe, Lower Parel
This place has great ambience and good food. I like the way the sunlight is used for the setting. It gives the place a very happy feel.
What can I say about Indigo! It is simply one of my favourite restaurants. Chef–owner Rahul Akerkar has set a culinary standard with Indigo.
Mainland China, Tardeo
If you ever want to eat authentic Chinese food, then this is the place to go to. Mainland China is the first place to get the best Chinese food closer to its authenticity.
Highway Gomantak, Bandra
Highway Gomantak serves coastal Marathi food at its best. It has got food which tastes and feels just like it’s prepared at home.
