Violence mars polls at 13 places in south Kashmir

Violence mars polls in parts of Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir's Anantnag parliamentary constituency.

Stone-throwing youth took to the streets in parts of Pulwama town and nearby areas. Security forces resorted to aerial firing to bring situation under control. Several polling staff members came under attack in Pulwama during the previous night.

Around 13 places witnessed stone pelting in south Kashmir till 12 pm.

In Shopian town, stone throwers attacked polling stations. Several areas were cordoned off by security forces.

Kulgam town too witnessed violence. The police fired tear smoke shells to disperse protesters.
Heavy deployment of security is made in all sensitive areas.

Separatists have called for a poll boycott.
