Looking for a space to daydream and float while you pen your magnum opus, but cannot afford the steep office prices in Delhi’s Khan Market or Connaught Place? The Hauz Khas Social Offline, opening today, is where you can expect to be seated next to an artist who could elbow you into being your creative best at work. A brainchild of Riyaaz Amlani, the Social cafe originated in Bangalore. However, Delhi will be the first place to have the Social Offline concept for those looking for creative workspace.
The sprawling 8500 sqft space located above Smoke House Deli is divided into two areas; one on the ground floor that runs as a cafe and bar open to all throughout the day, and the other a dedicated floor, designed to offer a conducive work environment.
According to Amlani, the workspace can accommodate up to 50 people, though we feel it might get a tight fit in the work area if all 50 do show up at the same time. Jasjyot Singh Hans, 24, an illustrator who had come to get a feel of the place said, “Here, there is a lot of scope for interaction and collaboration with like-minded people.”
Another creative professional, Nikyta Guleria, 23, said, “A good place to host, I am looking forward to using the conference room facilities with my team.” Paying `5000 for a month that is returned to you in the form of coupons for reimbursement at the food and drink counters is what the ‘rent’ is about. After all, 100% cash back is always appreciated. “We want people’s disposable time and not just their income. The battle, nowadays, is for the watch and not the wallet,” explained Amlani.
The 9-6 concept might not go down well with the creative types, who only work the hours that work for them. And if you prefer a more personalised space, you might not be comfortable with sharing communal tables even if it is with the copiously talented.
Although, a dedicated Wi-Fi connection is sure to make everyone happy. You needn’t worry about the charging points — plenty of those around. So Delhi, roll up your sleeves, pick up a paintbrush, a pen or two and get inspired!
