Jogi leads by 27,000 votes

In early trends, Ajit Jogi (INC) leads VC Shukla (BJP) by 27,000 votes in Chhatisgarh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading in eight of Chhattisgarh's 11 Lok Sabha constituencies as counting of votes cast in the general election was under way on Thursday.The BJP was in the lead in Bastar, Bilaspur, Durg, Janjgir, Kanker, Raigarh, Raipur and Sarguja.

The party had eight seats in the dissolved Lok Sabha.
In Sarguja, BJP state president Nandkumar Sai had established a lead of 6,000 votes over Congress candidate Khelsai Singh. In Raigarh, the BJP's Vishnudeo Sai led over Congress candidate Rampukar Singh by 9,200 votes.

At Bilaspur, Basant Pahare (INC) leads Punna Lal Mohile (BJP, at Sarangarh, Dauram Ratnakar (BSP) leads Parasram Bharadwaj (INC, at Kanker, Sohan Potai (BJP) leads Ganga Potai (INC). At Bastar, Baliram Kashyap (BJP) leads Mahendra Karma (INC).

At Durg, Tarachand Sahu (BJP) leads from Bhupesh Baghel (INC)while at Rajnandgaon: Devwrat Singh (INC) leads Pradeep Gandhi (BJP).

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's niece Karuna Shukla was leading by 9,600 votes in Janjgir after the completion of the first round of counting. The Congress had held the seat last time.

After the end of the first round of counting in Raipur, the BJP's Ramesh Bais, the minister for environment and forests, led by over 8,500 votes against three-time Madhya Pradesh chief

AT Rajnandgaon, Devwrat Singh (INC) leads Pradeep Gandhi (BJP).
