Chhattisgarh will adopt two tsunami-devastated villages in Tamil Nadu for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the people besides providing other assistance, Chief Minister Raman Singh said on Sunday.
"We have decided to adopt two villages in Tamil Nadu, which were devastated by tsunami and the government of Chhattisgarh will bear the entire expense for its re-construction and rehabilitation of the affected people", Singh said.
Just before his departure for Tamil Nadu, Singh said he had an initial discussion with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on the matter over phone.
"Today I am leaving with a high level delegation, of Chief Secretary, AK Vijayavargiya and other senior officials and people's representatives to have face-to-face discussion with Jayalalithaa and the Tamil Nadu Governor there for finalising the names of the villages to be adopted by the Chhattisgarh government," Singh said.
During the discussions with Tamil Nadu Governor and Chief Minister on Monday morning, BJP General Secretary in-charge of Chhattisgarh, Ananth Kumar and former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha would also be present at Chennai, the Chief Minister said.
