A local court has registered a case against cricketer Virender Sehwag and his business partner following a complaint from a college teacher in Allahabad that the star batsman failed to grant him franchise for his restaurant despite taking Rs. two lakh for the purpose. The order was passed
by Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajesh Upadhyay, before whom the complainant, Rajat, had moved an application under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code seeking a direction to the police to register an FIR on the basis of his complaint on Tuesday.

The teacher had alleged that though he had lodged a formal complaint against Sehwag and his partner Siddharth Dilawari at the Civil Lines Police Station but the police had been reluctant to register an FIR in this connection.

On its part, the police had said it was investigating the matter and expressed the opinion that even if an FIR were to be lodged, it had to be in Delhi where all the formalities and transactions had supposedly taken place in the year 2006.

The court, thereafter, registered a case under Section 200 of the CrPC (magistrate taking cognizance of an offence on complaint and examining upon oath the complainant and the witnesses present) and fixed September 16 for recording of statements.
