The Plane Accident Carrying Netaji

Ques 30: You have referred to a Cabinet Meeting of the Provisional Government of Azad Hind at the end of March or in the beginning - of April 1945. Was it the last Cabinet Meeting of the Provisional Government or was it the Cabinet meeting last attended by you?
Ans. It was the Cabinet Meeting last attended by me. Definitely it was not the last Cabinet Meeting of the Provisional Government. There were of course meetings of the Cabinet subsequent to that meeting.

Ques 31: Is it a fact that you were in Burma from April 1944 till March 1946 when you returned to India?
Ans. Yes, this is correct.

Ques 32: During the aforesaid period of your stay in Burma you concentrated on rendering medical services in Rangoon and the up-countries of Burma. Is it correct?
Ans. Yes.

Ques 33: I put it to you that because of your preoccupation with medical services during the said period you got detached from the Jhansi Regiment.
Ans. This is not correct. Simultaneously with the medical services I was with the Jhansi regiment during the said period. The hospital was nearby the Regiment headquarters. I was organising training camps for the Jhansi Regiment.

Ques 34: During your visit to the Renkoji temple in Japan in 1990 did you come to know that the temple had been completely gutted by fire in 1989?
Ans. During my said visit, I was told that the temple had been damaged to a great extent by a fire and that it had been since rebuilt, renovated and expanded.

Cross Examination by Sri Anil Kumar Mukherjee for himself and All India Forward Block.

Ques.35: You have already said you have no documents or records to prove the alleged air crash or the alleged death of Netaji in the air crash. Then, how can you say that Netaji died in the air crash?
Ans. As I have already said, I believe that Netaji died in the air crash. My belief in his death in the air crash was first generated when I met Habibur Rahman in India. My said belief became stronger and firm by the subsequent developments, namely non-appearance of. Netaji in India even when the country was passing through several crises starting from partition of India. My firm belief is that no power on earth could prevent a man like Netaji from returning to India when the country was passing through so many crisis.

Ques 36: I would draw your notice to a news item titled "Lakshmi again says about the death of Netaji" in the Ananda Bazar Patrika dated February 4,2001. You have been quoted as saying that those persons were not even born at the time of the air crash they were giving evidence before the Commission and it was a very strange matter.
Ans. Yes, I said so (the paper cutting is marked as exhibit-25 and the relevant portion is marked as exhibit 25/1).

Ques 37: How can you say that the ashes kept in the Renkoji temple in Japan are the ashes of Netaji?
Ans. It is my belief.

Ques 38: I put it to you that your statements on different occasions that Netaji died in the alleged plane crash and ashes in the Renkoji temple are ashes of Netaji are based on your own belief and hearsay. Is it correct?
Ans. Yes.
