Subhas Bose Probe: Phase I
These are findings of the first-ever public probe on Internet. Besides indictating that Subhas Bose did not die in the air crash on August 18, 1945, they also throw up pointers to the conspiracies that dogged the great leader during the dying days of World War II.
 
Secret and sensitive documents from Indian and foreign intelligence offices throw fierce light on cases relating to Netaji's disappearance.
 
Accounts of witnesses who deposed before the three panels instituted at various stages to unravel the Netaji mystery. .

Bhagwanji's movement in India

1955/56: Widowed Saraswati Devi and her son Rajkumar (50) come to live with her father Mahadeo Prasad Misra in Singar Nagar, Lucknow. Misra himself is staying with Bhagwanji.

Saraswati Devi and her son serve Bhagwanji until his death in 1985. They believe him to be Netaji.

In Lucknow, Bhagwanji runs into trouble with the house owner over rent default and leaves without his belongings.

For next six to seven months, Bhagwanji and Misra family stay in ruined Shiv temple on the banks of Gomati river.

1958: They shift to Neemsar and stay in a Dharamshala for two to three months and then move to an old temple complex.

April 1962: Atul Sen, an associate of Netaji, meets Bhagwanji in Neemsar. He takes him to be Netaji and on his return to Kolkata tells historian Dr RC Majumdar and INA Secret Service man Dr Pabitra Mohan Roy about the meeting. Dr Pabitra rushes to Neemsar at the end of the year.

December 1962: Dr Pabitra approaches Netaji's friend and political associate Leela Roy for help in buying seven items Bhagwanji had wanted.

January 1963: Leela Roy establishes contact with Bhagwanji.

March 1963: Leela Roy, Dr Pabitra Mohan Roy, Samar Guha (82) and Shaila Sen visit Bhagwanji in Neemsar. Saraswati Devi tells her son that the woman is a 'senior officer of the fauz'.

March 25, 1963: Srikant Sharma (93) becomes Leela Roy's and Bhagwanji's go-between. Bhagwanji shows himself to Sharma and tells him to convey to Leela Roy that it is not in the interest of the country for him to come out.

March 26, 1963: Possible date of Leela Roy's meeting with Bhagwanji. He hands over a letter demanding 12 items including cigars, a telescope and a Fowler's/Oxford dictionary.

March 30, 1963: Leela Roy and others leave. This is Leela Roy's first and last direct contact with Bhagwanji.

June 1963: Dr Pabitra Roy and another revolutionary Amal Roy visit Neemsar and stay there for two months.

July 8, 1964: Bhagwanji leaves Neemsar for Darshan Nagar, Faizabad, and stays at "Shankar Niwas".

September 1, 1964: Leela Roy writes to Netaji's closest friend Dilip Roy to say "he is alive-in India".

1965: Bhagwanji shifts to Lalkothi in Ayodhya.

1967: He moves to Shrista, Purani Basti, into the house of Basti King Onkar Singh. Here, Durga Prasad Pandey (83) comes into his contact. Pandey takes Bhagwanji to be Netaji. He meets him regularly for eight years.

1975: Bhagwanji shifts to Ayodhya. Durga Prasad Pandey travels with him in the same car.

In his eight years' stay in Ayodhya, Bhagwanji changes places four times.

1975: Stays at Lucknow Hatta

1975/76: Moves to Brahamkund and comes in touch with Dr T Banerjee and his family, Dr Rai (late 50s) and Dr R P Mishra (79).

1979: Litgation with house owner forces Bhagwanji to shift to Chhoti Deokali or Lucknow temple. (In the picture above).

1983: The Bhagwan moves to Rambhawan, the house of Gurubasant Singh at Faizabad Civil Lines.

September 16, 1985: Bhagwanji dies around 9 pm of cardio-vascular failure at the age of 88.

September 17-18, 1985: Dr Mishra's family, Saraswati Devi and others keep vigil on the body of Bhagwanji and do not allow any one to enter, including Gurubasant Singh. They all wait for Bhagwanji's followers from Kolkata to come. No one comes.

September 18, 1985: Local disciples cremate Bhagwanji at 4 pm at a park in Guptar Ghat on the banks of River Saryu.

1986: Lalita Bose, M A Haleem and Vishwa Bandhu Tiwari (now in his 60s) move apetition for safe keeping of Bhagwanji's belongings. The UP High Court accepts, and all the objects are moved to the Faizabad treasury after they are listed.

November 26-28, 2001: Justice Manoj Kumar Mukherjee scrutinises Bhagwanji's belongings at the treasury in the District Magistrate's office in the presence of media. He earmarks some of these to be taken to the Commission's office in Kolkata.
