Leela Roy: Freedom fighter
Leela Roy and her husband Anil Roy were leading revolutionaries
and friends of Netaji. Both visited Netaji in his Kolkata house
in 1941 and were privy to Netaji's plan to escape. In 1963, Leela
Roy and Pabitra Mohan Roy, INA Secret Service sleuth, visited Neemsar
and met Bhagwanji. Leela Roy fell ill soon after this visit. She
remained in coma for two years before her death in 1970.
Trailokya Nath Chakravarty:
He was the leader of a revolutionary group, the Jugantar Party.
He knew Subhas Bose from 1920s and had spent 30 years in jail, which
included a stint with Netaji in Mandalay Jail. He remained in East
Pakistan after the partition and helped Bangabandhu Mujibur Rahman
during the Bangladesh liberation war. He died Delhi, where he had
come on an invitation of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi after the
1971 war. He was in touch with Bhagwanji.
Aushutosh Kali: He was a
revolutionary of the group, Anusheelan Samity, He was senior to
Netaji and Leela Roy. He was in jail from 1916 to 1938 and 1940
to 1946. He contacted Bhagwanji in early 1960s, but died in 1965.
Dilip Roy: He was the son
of a famous singer D L Ray. He was Subhas Bose's best friend. Both
studied together in school and were together in London. He became
a hermit and died in the '80s. He is visible in a group picture
found in Rambhawan. In 1963, Leela Roy wrote him a letter on the
instructions of Bhagwanji saying, "your friend, he is alive
- in India".
Sunil Das: He belonged to
a family of revolutionaries. His mentor and elder brother Anil Das
was beaten to death in a Dacca jail. The shock that country felt
over the outrage reverberated even in the House of Commons (England).
His younger brother and sister too gave up their lives during the
independence struggle. Sunil Das himself escaped many attacks. An
MSc, Sunil Das published an acclaimed paper on Raman's Effect in
the American Journal of Physics. Along with his leaders, Leela Roy
and her husband Anil Roy, Sunil Das was one of the closest associates
of Subhas Chandra Bose. He also edited Netaji's works. Sunil Das
was a confidant of Bhagwanji.
Suresh Bose: He was Netaji's
elder brother. He was a member of the Shah Nawaz Committee that
probed the mystery in 1956. He disagreed with the findings and sent
a Dissentient Report. He was in touch with Bhagwanji.
Basanti Debi:
She was the wife of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, the mentor
of Netaji Shubhas Chandra Bose. She treated Bose as her son. She
has been mentioned in Ashutosh Kali's letter to Bhagwanji. Aushutosh
Kali wrote: "I would like to inform you that
Basanti
Debi is desperate to receive news of you and she has requested to
let her know as soon as one learns of your whereabouts."
Dr Pabitra Mohan Roy: He
was an Indian National Army (INA) Secret Service sleuth, who made
a secret submarine journey in late 1944 to India on the orders of
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He was to prepare a ground for co-ordinating
the activities of revolutionaries to coincide with INA's Kohima
assault. He and two others landed on Puri coast, got scattered,
but were arrested from different parts of the country. The court
sentenced them to death, which was commuted on the personal efforts
of Gandhiji. He contacted Bhagwanji in late 1962 and he remained
Bhagwanji's main man until 1985.
