  We all know about Lord Rama's victorious return to Ayodhya, leading to the first Diwali celebration ever. But there are lots of lesser known trivia about this festival. For instance, did you know that.........  
     
  It is believed that Goddess Parvati played dice with her husband, Lord Shiva, on Diwali day and she decreed that whosoever gambled on Diwali night would prosper throughout the ensuing year.  
  Lord Krishna discarded his body on Diwali day.  
  Bhagwan Mahavir, the Jain prophet, attained Nirvana on this day.  
  On this day Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean of milk called Ksheer Sagar.  
  Swami Ramtirth was not only born on Diwali day, but also took sanyas and samadhi on this day.  
  Kerela is probably the only Indian state where even Hindus do not celebrate Diwali.  
  Swami Dayanand Saraswati, founder of Brahma-Samaj, died on Diwali day.  
  Diwali is also celebrated in Gkyena, Thailand, Trinidad, Siam, Malaya and Singapore.  
  Diwali is probably the only Hindu festival celebrated on 'amavasya' night, which otherwise is considered to be inauspicious.
