Many don’t even know that you’re married.
My wife (Priyanka) has been a constant support. My son Veeir has turned three. My family means the world to me.

Do you think it’s important to be seen in big banner projects?
Yes, because that puts you in a different league altogether. The banner’s name brings in a larger audience.

Are you saying you don’t mind playing second fiddle in a big banner project?
You’re getting it wrong. I’ve done solo films, two-hero projects as well as multi-starrers. In certain films, like Hum Tum, I’ve done walk-on parts too. Some films you do because it’s made by a friend... some because you want to be remembered for it.

As an actor, I’m not insecure. I’m getting big banner projects as well as medium-budget films. I’ve struck a fine balance.

Do you ever miss big-time stardom?
I remember when I signed Maachis, I’d prayed to God to make me a super actor. (Laughs) Today, a decade down the line, I wish I had asked for superstardom!

It’s simple: there comes a time in every actor’s life when you stop craving acclaim because eventually everything boils down to commercial success.

You’ve recently acted in Punjabi films. How keen are you to take up more work in the north?
Yes, I’ve done Yaara Naal Bahaaran and Mannat. I’m definitely looking at doing more movies in Punjab, but only if I find the script interesting. The reason why I started doing Punjabi films is because I wanted to feel connected to my roots. I’m a Punjabi after all.
