It is rightly said what is earned in years can be lost in a moment. The same happened when Rahul Mahajan, son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, was arrested for a 'drugs overdose' case.

The son of the slain BJP leader was caught in the act just days after the untimely death of his father. In a country where traditions forbid any festivities in the house of someone who has passed away, the event casted a dark shadow over Rahul's future in the political landscape of the country.

When it comes to shame, no one can beat the politicians of this country. This fact was further highlighted when Shibu Soren, a cabinet minister in the current government was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court for the murder of his secretary Shahshi Nath Jha twelve years ago. For the first time in the history of the country a cabinet minister was convicted for such a crime.

Another issue that puts a question mark on our democracy is the death of thousands of farmers every year in regions like Vidarbha where every farmer is dying due to the apathy of our successive governments in meeting their problems. Although the Prime Minister visited the region and made generous grants, the farmer suicides hardly seem to subside, putting a big question mark on the transparency of the disbursement of these funds by the government officials.

It is strange to know that the gender bias seems to be rampant among the educated elite. An extraordinary four-year research in the heart of rural India shows that people living in areas with a higher level of education and affluence slaughter more female foetuses than those languishing in the social and economic backwaters.

Are you surprised that in the largest state of India cows have it better than many children. Nutritious food meant for children under the Integrated Child Development Scheme is being used illegally to fatten the cattle of the rich and influential in Uttar Pradesh. The state is also the worst offender to utilise its resources to curb malnourishment.
