Terror holds sway

A series of coordinated bomb attacks on the Mumbai suburban railways on July 11 outraged the nation. The country was appaled at the dastardly act of the terrorists. There were a series of seven bombings within a span of 11 minutes which left more than 200 hundred daily commuters dead and approximately 700 hundred injured and maimed for life.

After terrorists’ evil designs were met with failures at the hands of security forces, they changed their modus operandi. They decided to attack the nerve centre of economy – the financial capital of India, Mumbai.

Mumbai local trains witnessed spectre of blood and gore on July 11 evening and innocent Mumbaikars were made the target of the brutal attacks. The incident once again reminded of the horror of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. As if 1993 horror picture had revisited.

The bombs reportedly kept in pressure cookers were left in the crowded local train compartments to effect maximum damage. Men, women, professionals, joyriders, children, poor and rich – all lost their lives. Within minutes, hundreds became widow, many orphaned and some were spared their life at the cost of limbs or forelimbs – a burdened life!

Mumbai was again at the crossroads thinking which way to go. But the spirit of Mumbai engulfed all the emotions. The outrage and gloom could not overpower this unique spirit. Within seconds Mumbaikars were on their feet helping, rescueing the mutilated bodies from the debris, reaching them to hospitals. The religion, caste, class of the victims and the Mumbailars who were lending a helping hand to them, were melted.

The police swang into action and fanned across the country to get the clues of the bombings. The spirited police did not let the people disappoint, they nabbed the culprits in record time.

The nation has recuperated from the big strike but instead of dividing us, it made us come still closer. Agents of terror failed yet again. They could not deter us from moving ahead. The march continues.
