Sania Mirza, Osama bin Laden, Salman Rushdie, Taslima Nasreen and Isioma Daniel. What's common between these personalities? It's not just the name and the fame. The more horrifying commonality is that all of them have fatwas issued against them. Salman Rushdie has had a fatwa against him for the past 16 years. Taslima is a self-exiled Bangladeshi writer, who could have been hanged if she would have stayed in her country longer. Isioma Daniel, the Nigerian writer, has been slamped with the decree for alleged blasphemy. The 'Most-wanted' man has a fatwa issued against him by the clerics of Spain. All of 18, Sania is the latest entrant to the group - a fatwa has been issued against her dress by Muslim clerics -- who have been at the receiving end of the ire of the people who believe they know their religion. Sania might be the youngest but she's not the first of the group to have a fatwa issued against her. HindustanTimes.com takes a look at people who have been there, done that. |
