The only child of a powerful Pureblood family, Draco Malfoy is a pampered brat. He tried to make friends with Harry but his disparaging attitude towards Hagrid and Ron Weasley made Harry refuse the offer of friendship. Since then, the two boys have had a rivalry which climaxed in their sixth year when Harry became obsessed with Draco’s activities and stalked him, trying to catch in the act of doing something illegal.

Draco’s father, Lucius, was a prominent citizen of the Wizarding world before he was caught with other Death Eaters and imprisoned in Azkaban. Draco loves his parents deeply and is very protective of them, so much so that he obeys Lord Voldemort’s injunctions to kill Albus Dumbledore, lest his parents be harmed by Voldemort. His parents are equally watchful where he is concerned, which has often given an added dimension to these characters, who are essentially seen as negative.
