The film revolves around the animosity between the two families headed by Angaarchand (Amrish Puri) and Lakshmidevi (Lakshmi).

Priyadarshan, who shaped up some great comedies like Hera Pheri and Hungama failed to live up to the expectations of his fans in Hulchul. There is hardly any humor in the film. Arshad Warsi is the only saving grace. Paresh Rawal, who tickled the funny bones of the viewers in Hera Pheri and Hungama couldn’t save the film from tumbling at the box office.
