Yes, the year was marked by some tragic natural disasters, accidents
and calamities, yet to find joy in little things is perhaps human
nature and the only way one can summon the strength to go on.
Year 2005 also had its happy moments. In sports, Sachin Tendulkar's
glorious 35th century brought much cheer and rejuvenation to the Indian
team.
Also a reason to celebrate has been India's convincing wins over Sri
Lanka and South Africa this year.
Despite all cribbings of bad infrastructure, little law and order,
corrupt politicians and red tapism, blasts which shattered innocent
lives, India, in a global survey, was ranked the fourth happiest
nation, above Britain. It shows our tenacity as a people, who smile
in the face of adversity.
Bollywood films, the biggest passion of Indians, apart from cricket,
also gave reason to raise a toast with a slew of new and different
themes. Heartening too was India's rise as a name to reckon with
in the world of animation, with our ancient hero Hanuman making
waves worldover.
Last but not the least, our national carrier Indian Airlines, now
Indian, finally gets a spanking new makeover. Badhaai ho!
