Natwar Singh was External Affairs Minister of India in the Manmohan
Singh Cabinet since May 23, 2004.
He resigned from the Cabinet this year in the wake of Oil-For-Food
Programme controversy. His decision to resign following charges
that he benefitted from the Iraq Oil-For-Food deal - embarrassed
the Congress Party.
His son, Jagat, is also under investigation for the Iraq Oil-for-Food
scandal.
Both of them deny the allegations that they were beneficiaries
of the UN programme.
Natwar's future in the Union Minsitry depends on the Volcker report's
outcome.
Natwar has turned into a hot political potato for Congress and
should take the party's decision to oust him with grave seriousness.
