IITs and IITians

The year 2005 truly belonged to IITs and IITians. Some good, some sad, but they were in news all year round.

IIT Kharagpur will soon start an institution on intellectual property laws to educate students on protection and exploitation of technological IP.

IIT Kharagpur hit headlines in early 2005 when it developed a technique named Risug. A single injection of the drug would be enough to make a man infertile for more than 10 years.

Its latest feat comes with a team of researchers creating a tsunami travel time atlas to assist in predicting the time taken by a giant wave to travel in the Indian Ocean.

While, other good news came for IITians in 2005, there were some shockers also. An ex-IIT student was held for data theft from a Delhi BPO causing loss of over Rs 3 crore to the firm.
