India's success on the cricket field and BCCI's wealth have been
the major talking point of Indian cricket.
But this year, the much-hyped Sourav Ganguly versus Greg Chappell
debate took a rather ugly turn with the former Indian skipper openly
accusing his coach of not wanting him in the team.
It happened during the Zimbabwe tour of India, earlier this year.
That Sourav's form with the bat has been topic of much debate for
quite some time now, is no news. What was startling was the unprofessional
behaviour, particularly of the Indian skipper.
Greg shot back an email to the selectors, explaining in detail
how unsettling Sourav's influence was on the team. He accused him
of feigning injury, creating differences in team members and poor
form.
In what could be seen as a thickening Bollywood plot, the mail
was leaked to the media and much to the shame of the entire nation,
the spat was out in the open.
The crowds went crazy, some baying for Sourav's blood while others
crying foul play.
Subsequent to that, BCCI dropped Sourav both from the Test as well
as ODI teams.
