A published novelist, a familiar face on television, a senior journalist, Ms Seema Goswami is best known for her popular weekly column, Spectator, in Brunch, the Hindustan Times Sunday magazine. An accomplished writer also contributes frequently to the Hindustan times' editorial and op-ed pages , she also does an occasional lifestyle piece for HT City and Style.
She started her career with Sunday, then India's best-selling weekly magazine, as a political journalist, reporting on several General Elections. Not only did she interview both Prime Ministers and Presidents of India, but reported extensively on business and arts. She has traveled around the world, in the course of her journalistic career.
As India began emerging as a global market, with its own fledgling fashion industry, classy restaurants that promoted a culture of eating out, accompanied by the rise of the cult of the celebrity, she expanded her interests to include lifestyle journalism.
In 1995, she launched "Graphiti", India's first branded Sunday magazine supplement, which became the model for later publications of the genre. Graphiti was the first major Indian publication to focus on lifestyle and luxury and she functioned as its founding-editor till 2004. She brought to her job her vast knowledge of the fashion scene - both in India and abroad - her incisive writing skills and her keen eye for incipient social trends. |
