It is under Didier Grumbach's presidency that the French-Italian agreement -meant to organize a specific cooperation between both countries concerning the protection of intellectual property as well as the fight against counterfeiting- was signed on June 26, 2000. It was during the year 2002 that the haute couture's criteria were reviewed to ease new incomers, including Thierry Mugler, Jean Paul Gaultier or other guest members such as young designers Stéphanie Coudert and Anne Valérie Hash. It is also under his leadership that numerous events have been expanded, such as the Festival International des Arts de la mode de Hyères (FIAMH), or developed such as the fashion show presentations of young French designers in Beijing, in the frame of crossed exchanges.
His directions are to gather creative fashion designers, both haute couture and ready-to-wear, to stimulate the economic development in this industry. By helping promote the young fashion designers, the "made in France", brand names will assure a future to the French haute couture.
During his very successful business career, decades before becoming the leader of the French Fashion Federation, he was relentless in his search for finding new ways of supporting the young fashion talents with exceptional creative skills. He understood how difficult it was for young fashion designers to be acknowledged and respected by the fashion industry. Their struggles along with many more challenges of this fragile industry have led Didier Grumbach to employ his business and law background expertise in his crusade for ethics and generosity within this field.
Here are a few highlights of his accomplishments:
In the early sixties, along with Pierre Bergé, he co-founded Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. Later on he became President of YSL operations in the United States. In 1971, he became the founder of a very innovative group "Créateurs & Industriels" bridging young fashion designers of that time with industrial manufacturers (Ossie Clark, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Issey Miyake, Thierry Mugler..).
At the end of the seventies, he launched on the international fashion stage one of the most prolific creative fashion designer: Thierry Mugler.
Since 1985, with Pierre Bergé as President, he has directed the Institut Français de la Mode (I.F.M.), a unique post-graduate program in design and business, that is funded by the industry and open to graduate students and professionals from all over the world. I.F.M. is now a well renowned established educational institution, nurturing the worldwide most unique, driven and talented young designers. |
