Looking beyond the five-year plan

The new course content planned by the NCERT for Classes XI and XII deals with globalisation, liberalisation and the new economy credo of privatisation. New economy trades will include new sectors like the BPO industry.

The entire course content has been divided into four parts and the curriculum ranges from the initial five-year plans to the post-globalisation modern trade in the country. “The course has been devised in a way that economic policies and development is placed in a historical context” informs an NCERT official.

One of the modules in Class XI specifically deals with Indian Economic Development that deals with key issues of the economy. The section has been divided into four units. The first two will deal with development policies and experience from 1947 to 1990 and economic reforms since 1990, the third deals with challenges facing the Indian economy.
