Anuradha Vakil at India Fashion Week

For her bandhani collection, Anuradha has created unusual textiles using this age-old craft. Saris and abhas are also present in this range. Anuradha uses vegetable dyes wherever possible.

Creating a ready-to-wear Pret line is no new experience for Anuradha, since she does that in any case. As she says, "For a designer like me who works with hand-crafted textiles, pret not only means good business sense, but also a scope to provide quality work to craftsmen at grass root levels.

"Volumes would really provide the necessary impetus that is missing. I have seen the 'trickle down' of my work reaching my crafts people and that is something that gives me a tremendous sense of fulfillment.''

About the Fashion Week, Anuradha enthuses, "Indian fashion has finally coming of age. Designers have put their differences aside to work towards a common goal. That in itself is a great thing. 'India Fashion Week' is a first event that is being put together. We are just beginning to get organized. But, it definitely is a step in the right direction. Personally I am not going into this with too many expectations. Since this is a landmark event in Indian fashion, I am happy to be a part of it and for the opportunity to be able to judge it myself.''
