A
definite highlight of the India Fashion Week will be the collection
by Meera and Muzaffar Ali (Kotwara). The couple who is a definite
part of the Delhi fashion scene even without living here, is soon
rectifying that by making a base in the capital and spending more
time here.
Known for their exquisitely detailed chikan in elegant, flowing forms,
Meera and Muzaffar's line for IFW is an extension of their regular
work. It is a representative cross section of their style, which will
be exposed for the first time at such a trade show.
Explains Muzaffar, "Kotwara has been an organic evolution of
both chikan and zardozi in form and colour. This is the first time
we will establish a visible link between an elaborate couture line
and a pret range in the same genre and style."
Slim, classic silhouettes in the Kotwara collection
use cottons and silks and textures in the free-flowing natural fabric,
matka. Subtle embroidery helps create abstract textures. The Kotwara
pret line is essentially in chikan comprising capris, skirts and tops;
short kurtas with salwars and pants; and embroidered jackets with
quilted skirts.
Another,
more elaborate line is created in a special tonal embroidery in black,
beige and dove grey. This comprises long coats with sleeves that vary
from long, short to without sleeves; these are to be worn with long
slim black gowns.
