Shaadi? No sweat!
By Randeep Singh Mahal

An Indian wedding. The extravagant affair it can be – the ingredients just have to be right – a lot of pre-planning, running around and faultless organisation. Though reminiscent of a royal touch, rustic rhythm and grandeur of yore, a wedding today, interestingly, has a strong whiff of a corporate venture! And the result? In place of the familiar confusion and chaos related with weddings, are ‘specialised’ weddings with a pre-decided flavour.

After the runaway success of ‘Celebrating Vivaha 2003’, the first-ever exhibition featuring the varied elements of a wedding extravaganza, it’s all set to be hosted at Taj Palace (New Delhi) Aug 6-9 and at Taj Land End (Mumbai) - Oct 22-25. Informs Tarun Sarda, a media personality & editor-publisher of the magazine Celebrating Vivaha, in City for a preview of the exhibition at Hotel Mountview on Thursday: “It’s a multi-faceted & multi-dimensional expo, conceived to cater to wedding celebrations. It’s designed to accentuate the spirit of wedding celebrations to ensure it remains the most cherished event of one’s lifetime.”

The exhibition, he informs, is essentially a show to provide all the needful and imagined creations to satisfy the aspirations of a rather discerning clientele. From trousseau to internationally-acclaimed cosmetic brands to household décor and furnishings, wedding planners, honeymoon destinations, jewellery and accessories – the show wraps all this to present a new perspective to shubh lagan and vivaha. The event is crafted practically, and is in sync with the changing outlook, style and culture of people.”

The elaborate marriage fixation courtesy the Indian film industry, too has a lot to do with the concept. So what do we have? The show that places a Ritu Kumar or a Raghavendra Rathore along with Christine Dior, Tag-Heur, Bovet, Unidesign and Pierre Cardin ideas.
