THE UNCOMPROMISING BRIDE LETS HER HAIR DOWN
Akash Arora (HT City)

In the first Sunsilk hair workshop, Sunsilk brand ambassador and one of Delhi’s 3 talented hair stylists Samantha Kochhar demonstrated the contemporary hair trends as far as bridal styling goes. “The bridal hairstyle has seen a world of difference in the recent past. The tied-up, bun look which the brides used to swear by a few years ago is history. That has given way to a more relaxed look with Madhubala-style wavy hair in the front and raised curls at the back,” said Kochhar after her workshop at the Taj Palace on Friday noon.

“Today the brides concentrate not just on their makeup, but lay equal emphasis on hairstyling too. They want to flaunt something very hip. And with chunnis and dupattas getting more transparent by the day, the hairdo is out there for people to see and brides don’t want to make any compromises,” added Kochhar.

With the help of a model, Kochhar demonstrated how one could work a bride’s hair in contemporary style in 30-minutes flat. “I gave my bride a side parting in the front and back-combed the two streaks to add volume. Then I made pony tails of the streaks and curled them and then pinned them with the back hair,” she said. She did the same to the back hair – backcombed it and then curled different streaks and pinned them in a zigzag pattern. All along she used working spray, which softens the hair and then allows it to settle. Once the hair settled, she used a finishing spray, which gels the hair together and doesn’t allow it to split even after the pins are taken off from the curls. Then end result was a sexy bridal hairdo.

Kochhar then demonstrated yet another bridal hairdo in which she gave the model a zigzag parting in the front. “I wanted to do something different – something that hasn’t been done before. A zigzag parting on a bride’s head gave her a very funky, with-it look,” she said.
