STARS' EYE VIEW
Khalid M Ansari (HindustanTimes.com)
During
a week when fashion is religion, they are undoubtedly its most revered
priests. Who better to take you through all the drama and action
of the Lakme India Fashion Week 2002 than those who make fashion
happen in India? Sit back and enjoy a stars' eye view of the country's
biggest fashion event:
Vijay Mallya (Liquor baron and fashion enthusiast)
and on Ashish Soni: If fashion is looking classy and feeling
good, then Ashish Soni's collection is a winner all the way. His
designs are futuristic and meant for those who demand the best in
contemporary global fashion. The tunics, peasant skirts, low wasted
bootlegs and kaftan tops are an excellent attempt at redefining
couture with a distinctly Indian flavour.
Ramona Garware (Socialite and page three regular)
on Rocky Singhvi: With due apologies, there are very few Indian
designers who can match Rocky Singhvi's understanding of fashion
and what it means to people. His clothes always manage to bring
out the best in a wearer. If you want to look hot and sexy, you
just can't afford to miss out on Rocky's designs.
Rohit
Bal (Style guru) on Manish Arora: Fashion is after all your
attitude towards your own body and towards people around you. While
I may be accused of being partial to Manish because of my role in
his initial grooming, I honestly think his ensembles do great things
to help you achieve a better relationship with yourself and the
world. I would in fact go so far as to say he has a strong future
in the world fashion market.
Shivani Kapoor (Model) on Puja Nayyar: Having been a keen
observer of global fashion trends, I can say that Puja Nayyar's
creations are the natural choice for young women looking for contemporary,
classic and elegant clothing. Sensuous cuts, modern fabrics, innovative
motifs and fine detailing are the strong points of Puja's work.
Shruti Sharma (Model) on Mandira Wirk: Even
though Delhi is yet to discover Mandira's work in a big way, she
is already the darling of the fashion-conscoius in Bangalore and
Mumbai. Her creations are value for money despite being slightly
higher-priced.
Aditi Govitrikar (Model and former Mrs World) on Payal Jain:
More than what you wear, fashion is what your body wants. Payal
is one of those rare designers who believe in creating classic and
sensuous stuff but for a select clientele. Having worked with international
fashion gurus like Jacqueline de Brey and Ulrich Engler in Europe,
her style statement is distinctly urban but very unique.
Nina Manuel (Model) on Jattin Kochhar: Jattin
is a past master at transforming the banal into something that is
classic and at the same time in sync with the times. His designs
are a tribute to today's woman who is aware of her body and loves
the sensuous look.
