Mr. K. Subrahmanyam is considered among the foremost experts on security-related issues in this country, closely associated with the formulation of India's nuclear doctrine. A former bureaucrat, he has been the founding Director of the Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA), a premier think tank in the country that deals with strategic and defence-related issues confronting the country. Mr. Subrahmanyam has served as consulting editor of The Economic Times and continues to write extensively on security-related issues. The author of several studies on Nuclear Proliferation and International Security, Mr. Subrahmanyam was appointed to head of the National Security Council Advisory Board (NSCAB) established by the government to draft the Indian nuclear doctrine. He also headed the Kargil panel, a commission set up by the government to analyse the Kargil war of 1999, and is a member of the National Security Advisory Board.
