Chester-Le-Street, July 4: Rain ensured
there was no result in the day-night triangular series international
between England and India here at the Riverside on Thursday.
England were 53 for one off 12 overs in reply
to India's 285 for four with Nick Knight 17 not out and captain
Nasser Hussain nine not out when rain forced the players off at
1835GMT.
After a 14 minute break only three more balls
were possible before rain again sent the players back into the pavilion.
Rain continued to fall and, with a minimum
25 overs in an innings needed to constitute a match, the umpires
called off the game at 2020GMT.
Earlier Sachin Tendulkar's 105, his 32nd one-day
century but first against England, was the cornerstone of India's
total.
He received sound support from Rahul Dravid
(82) and Yuvraj Singh (40 not out) after India were tied down mid-innings
by some accurate England bowling.
Both teams received two points apiece for
this no result.
That left India, who beat England by six wickets
when the teams met at Lord's on Saturday, top of the table with
10 points from their three matches.
England, who have played four games to India's
three, but have also won twice are on 10 points as well.
But Sri Lanka remain winless and pointless
after three matches.
In the next match of the series India play
Sri Lanka at Edgbaston on Saturday. (PTI)
